Gyeonggi-do Leads Nationwide Franchise Business Dispute Mediation with 67 Cases Received and 48 Settled
Gyeonggi Province was found to have conducted the most franchise business transaction dispute mediations in the first half of this year.
Gyeonggi Province announced on the 27th that it handled 69 out of 84 cases, including 67 cases from the first half of this year and 17 cases carried over from last year, recording the highest number of mediation achievements nationwide.
The number of dispute mediations successfully concluded was 48, with a 94% success rate, and the average processing time for dispute mediation was 29 days, significantly shorter than the 60-day statutory processing period under the Fair Trade Act.
Last year, Gyeonggi Province received 108 dispute mediation cases for the first time, exceeding 100 cases.
Kim Hong-seok, a professor at Sunmoon University and chairman of the Gyeonggi Province Franchise Business Transaction Dispute Mediation Council, evaluated, "Since January 2019, Gyeonggi Province has been delegated the authority for franchise business transaction dispute mediation from the Fair Trade Commission and currently handles the most dispute mediations among the four local governments, with the highest number of successful mediations."
Heo Seong-cheol, head of the Fair Economy Division of Gyeonggi Province, stated, "Following last year, Gyeonggi Province is assisting in quickly and promptly resolving the rapidly increasing number of franchise business transaction dispute mediation cases this year as well," adding, "We will fulfill our role as a practical mediator in franchise business transaction disputes by achieving the best possible agreement between the disputing parties."

Gyeonggi Province operates the Fair Trade Support Center and provides damage consultations and dispute mediation for small and medium-sized merchants facing difficulties in all areas related to fair trade, including franchise business transaction disputes, agency, subcontracting, large-scale distribution, and general unfair practices.
