Since February this year, SK㈜ C&C has been working for eight months to assetize a large volume of unstructured data existing across various systems within Woori Bank that had not been effectively utilized. Unstructured data refers to data that is not defined by a structured format. In banks, this includes business information such as financial product details, operational regulations and guides, official documents, as well as information accumulated from customer-facing services like online banking and chatbots.

First, SK㈜ C&C built an integrated system overseeing the collection, operation, and management framework of unstructured data. They designed a standardized process covering the entire workflow from data collection to processing and storage, applying AI models and automation tools. This established a foundation to utilize various internal information within the bank that had previously been underutilized.

They also developed a natural language processing-based AI search system and an AI knowledge consultation system applying generative AI models like ChatGPT for Woori Bank employees to use in their work. The system extracts necessary keywords and sentences from unstructured data composed in natural language and supports preprocessing functions such as spacing correction, sentence and paragraph segmentation, and typo correction. It assists users in quickly and accurately finding desired information by summarizing and classifying text as well as analyzing context.

The AI knowledge consultation service is a generative AI model (GPT) based on open-source algorithms jointly developed by SK㈜ C&C and Woori Bank. It addresses the hallucination issue, a known drawback of existing generative models, by presenting users with supporting documents for the answers provided.

Kim Hwajung, Head of the Financial Digital Innovation Group at SK㈜ C&C, said, "We expect AI search and AI knowledge consultation services to significantly transform the way Woori Bank works going forward," adding, "We will fulfill our role as Woori Bank’s digital ITS partner to ensure this system becomes the digital financial innovation platform leading the domestic financial market."
