Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute Conducts Intensive Inspection on 'Eco-friendly' False Labeling During Chuseok Holiday
The Korea Environmental Industry & Technology Institute under the Ministry of Environment announced on the 27th that it will intensively monitor products with unfair environmental labeling and advertising, as well as household chemical products suspected of legal violations, at department stores, online stores, and other locations during the Chuseok holiday.
To carry out this intensive monitoring, 50 market surveillance personnel will be deployed to check for unfair environmental labeling and advertising on gift products whose demand surges during the Chuseok holiday. According to the Environmental Technology and Environmental Industry Support Act, companies must clearly and factually express environmental terms such as "eco-friendly" or "non-toxic" on products to prevent consumer misunderstanding.
Additionally, considering the increased use of passenger cars during the Chuseok holiday period, investigations will be conducted on vehicle-related household chemical products such as air fresheners and deodorants for unregistered products and violations of labeling standards. Household chemical products can be manufactured and sold only after registration with the Ministry of Environment under the Act on the Safety Control of Household Chemical Products and Biocides, and the product surface or packaging must display the item name, usage, registration number, and other information.
