Chungnam Province Develops Measures for Marine Debris Collection and Management in Coastal Areas
Chungnam Province is set to devise measures for the collection and management of marine debris in coastal areas within its jurisdiction.
On the 25th, Chungnam Province announced that it held the final report meeting for the "Chungnam Marine Debris Distribution Survey and Management Plan (2nd Year) Research Project" at the provincial government office.
The research project aims to organize marine debris within the province and fundamentally establish measures to reduce the generation of marine debris and manage it effectively.
The project was undertaken by the West Coast Climate and Environment Research Institute. On this day, the institute shared the contents of the second-year research project conducted over one year since October last year and proposed future plans for managing and utilizing marine debris based on the findings.
First, in the second-year field survey, the institute conducted a comprehensive survey of seven coastal cities and counties within Chungnam Province, creating a distribution map of marine debris in the coastal areas.
They also investigated seasonal distribution characteristics, the properties of marine debris materials, the status of untreated marine debris, and the current state of debris management, sharing the derived collection and management measures for marine debris in coastal areas.
Chungnam Province plans to establish a systematic collection and management plan by understanding the current volume of marine debris and the status of debris stockpiling after collection, based on the results of the second-year coastal area survey, the first-year island area survey, and the upcoming third-year submerged marine debris survey plan.
In particular, the province intends to develop technology that enables marine debris collection based on precise location information by creating a marine debris monitoring distribution map, and improve collection and management efficiency through equipment modernization.
