World Folk Dance Festival Held at Wangsimni Square in Seongdong-gu
District to Host Spectacular Folk Dance Festival at Wangsimni Square on October 4 at 7 PM
13 World-Class Dance Troupes from 11 Countries to Deliver High-Level Performances
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jung Won-oh) will hold the 2023 World Folk Dance Festival at Wangsimni Square on October 4th at 7 PM.
The World Folk Dance Festival is Seongdong-gu's representative festival, where about 2,000 residents gather annually at Wangsimni Square to enjoy together. It is being held again after four years due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In particular, it offers a rich visual experience through diverse folk dances and performances by dance troupes from around the world.
This year, 13 world-class dance teams from 11 countries are expected to participate in the festival.
Major participating countries include ▲ Brazil, known for its splendid costumes and dynamic dance skills ▲ the Philippines, performing thrilling acts weaving between sticks ▲ Tahiti, notable for its exotic indigenous costumes ▲ and Lithuania, presenting performances themed on the 19th-century royal court.
Finally, Korea will be represented by Seonhwa Arts High School, Project Chang, and Ryu Dance Troupe, who will showcase high-quality preliminary performances that will captivate the audience.
Jo Nam-gyu, director of the Korea Dance Association, who is in charge of the overall production of the performances, said, "It is an honor to present the wonderful performances of world-class dance troupes to the residents of Seongdong-gu," adding, "We will prepare well to make this a festival where all Seongdong residents come together harmoniously."
Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, stated, "I hope this festival, held for the first time in four years, will be a time to experience and understand each other's cultures," and added, "I hope many residents will enjoy the exciting feast of dance on this deep autumn night."
