Seoul Police Agency Implements Special Traffic Management at 41 Locations for Chuseok Homecoming and Return Trips
The Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency announced on the 25th that it will implement special traffic management during the Chuseok holiday to ensure smooth traffic flow and the safety of citizens.
From the 27th to October 3rd, the police will conduct traffic management at 41 locations expected to experience vehicle congestion, including train stations, terminals, highway entrances and exits, and ancestral grave roads, to facilitate traffic flow and prevent traffic accidents. Although the longer-than-usual holiday is expected to disperse vehicles traveling to and from hometowns, the increase in leisure trips raises concerns about an overall rise in traffic volume.
During this special crackdown, violations of traffic laws such as cutting in line and driving in the bus-only lane on the Gyeongbu Expressway will be targeted. Additionally, the police will actively address drunk driving and driving under the influence after drinking, as well as drug-impaired driving, which has recently threatened public safety, in cooperation with the narcotics crime division from the outset.
Furthermore, traffic signal operations will be flexibly adjusted according to vehicle and pedestrian traffic volumes during the holiday period. Signal times at locations with concentrated vehicle traffic will be extended by up to 10 seconds, and pedestrian crossing signal times at crowded pedestrian areas will be extended by up to 7 seconds to facilitate smooth traffic flow and ensure pedestrian safety.
For the convenience of citizens, real-time traffic information on congestion and traffic accidents will be provided through KakaoTalk (Seoul Police Traffic Information), traffic information hotline (02-700-5000), and radio stations such as MBC, SBS, TBS, as well as navigation service providers.

A police official urged, “Since many people travel by car with their families during the holiday, it is important to strictly follow traffic laws to prevent traffic accidents caused by a moment of carelessness. Especially, if you have had even one drink, you must never get behind the wheel.” He added, “Drowsy driving on highways can cause major traffic accidents, so drivers should take sufficient rest before driving.”
