This agreement focuses on expanding the user base by incorporating the glossary into Naver’s familiar online platform, enabling not only domestic and international art professionals but also the general public to use it effectively through cooperation between the public and private sectors.
Based on research results, the Arts Management Support Center has provided accumulated data to Naver to support the transformation of the art field from a specialized domain into an area that can be enjoyed together with the public. This Korean Art Multilingual Glossary project is part of the Arts Management Support Center’s ‘Korean Art Overseas Publishing Support Project’ and is the outcome of research conducted since 2017. This data is also scheduled to be published offline as a Korean Art Multilingual Glossary volume by the end of this year.
The Korean Art Multilingual Glossary includes terms related to art terminology, figures, organizations, and institutions translated into Korean, English, Chinese, and Japanese, making it useful not only domestically but also internationally.
First, ▲ the art terminology section includes essential 20th-century Korean art cultural terms, art movements and styles introduced from abroad, as well as materials, techniques, styles, schools, art movements, events, and exhibitions. ▲ The figures section is based on the most extensive artist name database currently available, covering individuals born between 1850 and 1970, created using data from the National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, national and public museum websites, the Korea Arts & Culture Education Service’s DA-Arts, and the Kim Daljin Art Research Institute’s person database. ▲ The organizations and institutions section includes art organizations, academic societies, educational institutions, art museums, museums, and galleries.
This business agreement aims to expand the Korean Art Multilingual Glossary service through cooperation between the two organizations and to support a wider range of users in easily understanding and utilizing art-related terminology. Until now, the Korean Art Multilingual Glossary has provided multilingual terms across various art fields along with professional term explanations, serving as an important resource for art-related education, research, and artwork interpretation.
Moon Young-ho, CEO of the Arts Management Support Center, stated, “Through this agreement, more people will be able to use our Korean Art Multilingual Glossary service effectively,” adding, “We will strengthen the institution’s social responsibility and establish ourselves as a specialized organization providing accurate and differentiated art terminology database services.”
