Han Chaeyang Appointed as CEO of Emart... Shinsegae Conducts Regular Executive Personnel Changes

On the 20th, Shinsegae Group appointed Han Chaeyang, CEO of Chosun Hotel & Resort, as the new CEO of Emart, and Park Joohyeong, CEO of Shinsegae Central City, as the CEO of Shinsegae.

View original imageOn the morning of the same day, Shinsegae Group carried out its regular executive appointments for 2024, including these two individuals. CEO Han will concurrently serve as the CEO of Emart Everyday and Emart24 in addition to Emart. Kang Heeseok, who previously held concurrent CEO positions at Emart and SSG.com, is reported to be stepping down without taking on another role. Kang, who took office as Emart CEO in October 2019, was originally scheduled to serve until March 2026.
Regarding this personnel change, Shinsegae Group stated, "We focused on change and renewal, synergy enhancement, and establishing a performance-driven system," adding, "We have reorganized the company’s overall competitiveness while building a strong execution-oriented organization capable of confronting the management environment head-on and pioneering the future." Through this appointment, about 40% of the CEOs were replaced. The company explained that young talents were boldly promoted and assigned.
In addition to CEO Han, CEO Park is also mentioned as a key executive. CEO Park will concurrently serve as the CEO of Shinsegae Central City as well as Shinsegae. Song Hyunseok, CEO of Shinsegae Food, will concurrently lead Shinsegae Food and Shinsegae L&B. Im Youngrok, CEO of Shinsegae Property, will oversee both Shinsegae Property and Chosun Hotel & Resort. Shinsegae Group expects that this integrated CEO system will consolidate organizational capabilities and lay the foundation to maximize synergy and performance creation.
Shinsegae Group also appointed Lee Seokgu, CEO of Shinsegae New Growth Promotion Committee, as the CEO of Shinsegae Live Shopping. Kim Hyunwoo, a content business expert, was recruited and appointed as CEO of Mindmark. Additionally, Lee Juchul, head of Gmarket’s Strategic Business Division, was appointed as CEO of W Concept Korea.
Furthermore, Shinsegae Group introduced a new CEO operating structure. They established an integrated retail cluster that includes Emart, Emart Everyday, Emart24, Shinsegae Property, SSG.com, and Gmarket under its umbrella to promote stronger synergy, execution power, and new performance creation. They also implemented an integrated head system for subordinate organizations and department heads, introduced a hybrid organizational system for synergy, and carried out generational changes by work area, aiming to surpass the existing organizational operation methods comprehensively.
