KG Mobility launched the new electric vehicle Torres EVX on the 20th. It is based on the mid-size sport utility vehicle (SUV) Torres and features a lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery. The company actively engaged in initial promotional activities by lowering the price by up to 2 million KRW compared to the price announced during pre-orders and extending the battery warranty period to 10 years or 1 million kilometers.
The battery was supplied by BYD, China’s top electric vehicle company that also manufactures batteries. They collaborated from the early stages of vehicle development to optimize the battery management system (BMS). The capacity is 73.4 kWh, allowing a driving range of 433 km on a single charge. Among domestic passenger cars, this is the second model to use an LFP battery after the Kia Ray. The company explained that the battery is highly durable due to its strong resistance to external shocks and lower fire risk.
The significant extension of the battery warranty period for this key electric vehicle component reflects the company’s confidence in its durability. EV batteries are typically manufactured through cell → module → pack processes. The blade battery used in the Torres EVX connects directly from cell to pack without the module stage. The company stated, "We increased the energy density per unit area by up to 20% to extend driving range," and added, "By densely stacking cells and reinforcing bonding states, we designed it to be highly resistant to shocks, offering an unprecedented warranty period that competitors have not attempted."
With a 152.2 kW front-wheel-drive motor, the maximum output is 207 horsepower, and the maximum torque is 34.6 kgf·m, which is over 20% higher than the internal combustion engine model. The transmission control method was changed from a gear lever type to a toggle switch type. Four driving modes are available. Regenerative braking during deceleration can be adjusted in three stages, and there is a system that automatically adjusts the level based on road conditions and vehicles ahead. Unlike competitors’ EVs, whose battery thermal management systems usually activate below freezing, this system starts operating from 8°C. Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) capability is standard, allowing external use of electricity. Up to 3.5 kW of power consumption can be used, which is about 20% of the battery capacity.
The price is 47.5 million KRW (after tax benefits) for the base E5 model and 49.6 million KRW for the premium E7 model. During pre-orders in March this year, the price was under review in the range of 48.5 million to 52 million KRW, but it has been lowered since then. With combined national and local subsidies, the actual purchase price is expected to be in the 30 million KRW range nationwide. The company explained, "Lowering the price compared to pre-orders is a rare case, decided abruptly considering the expansion of EV adoption and the subsidy reduction next year."
The design of the vehicle’s front, including the grille, turn signals, and driver display, has been updated. The interior cargo space is 839 liters, suitable for outdoor activities. The 4-corner BSD system uses four radars around the vehicle to control it and prevent accidents. The connected car system Infocon service is free for five years, and smart mirroring with Apple and Android devices is supported. Customers who pre-order before launch and take delivery within the year will receive a charging voucher worth 200,000 KRW, while customers who purchase after launch and take delivery within the year will receive a 100,000 KRW charging voucher.
