Yongin Jungang Library Transforms into Eco-Friendly Library with Enhanced Energy Efficiency
Ministry of Land Chooses Sites for Green Remodeling Project
Construction to Start in 2025, Completion Planned for 2026
The 'Yongin Central Library' in Yeokbuk-dong, Cheoin-gu, Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, will be remodeled into an eco-friendly library with improved energy efficiency.
Yongin City announced on the 19th that it will invest a budget of 6.662 billion KRW in Yongin Central Library to start the green remodeling project in 2025.
The green remodeling of Yongin Central Library follows its selection in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's 'Public Building Green Remodeling Contest.' The city secured 5.263 billion KRW in national and provincial subsidies as a result of this selection.
This library, opened in 1993, is Yongin City's first public library. It was built with a total floor area of 4,460㎡, consisting of one basement floor and three above-ground floors. The library was selected as a 'Signature Project' site within the Ministry of Land's green remodeling projects through the contest. Being selected as a Signature Project site grants double the national subsidy of 4.2 million KRW per 3.3㎡, compared to the 2.1 million KRW per 3.3㎡ for general project sites.
The city plans to enhance energy efficiency by remodeling the building’s interior and exterior wall insulation, as well as upgrading windows, heating and cooling systems, and lighting. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025 and be completed in 2026.
