Park Yong-jin: "Prosecutors, stop worrying about dates and do your job"
Lee Jae-myung, leader of the Democratic Party of Korea, was transferred to a hospital on the morning of the 18th, the 19th day of his hunger strike, amid divided opinions on whether the prosecution would file an arrest warrant for him that day. In response, Democratic Party lawmaker Park Yong-jin pressured the prosecution, saying, "Don't worry about the date, just do your job."
On the 18th, Park said on SBS's 'Kim Tae-hyun's Political Show,' "The prosecution should do what it has to do, and the National Assembly will do what it has to do."
Although it was widely expected that the prosecution would file an arrest warrant for Lee on that day, there are speculations that the filing date might be postponed as Lee was transferred to a hospital in the morning due to health issues.
If the prosecution files the warrant that day, the vote on the arrest consent bill could take place as early as the 21st. Park said, "There is a plenary session on the 21st and another on the 25th, but I don't know if it will come before then," adding, "The plenary session on the 25th is tentative, not confirmed. Since it is not mandatory to hold the session that day, there are various variables regarding the schedule, so we need to observe the situation."
Park also stated that Lee's condition upon being transferred to the hospital that morning was not critical. He said, "His physical condition is certainly not normal and has become quite difficult. In fact, even before last weekend, medical staff advised that he should be taken to the hospital quickly," adding, "I don't think it is a critical condition, but his health has deteriorated to the point where medical examination and treatment at the hospital are necessary."
