Teen Female Student Given Probation for Multiple Drug Uses at Gangnam Club and Yangyang Beach
Sentenced to 10 months imprisonment with 2 years probation

A teenage female student who repeatedly used various types of drugs at a club in Gangnam and Yangyang Beach was sentenced to a prison term with a suspended sentence.

View original imageAccording to the legal community on the 17th, the Criminal Division 11 of Suwon District Court (Chief Judge Shin Jin-woo) recently sentenced Ms. A (18), who was indicted for violating the Narcotics Control Act, to 10 months in prison with a 2-year suspension. The court also ordered Ms. A to undergo probation and attend 40 hours of drug treatment lectures.
Ms. A was prosecuted on charges of repeatedly using methamphetamine, MDMA, ketamine, and marijuana from January to July 2022. She is accused of using ketamine at clubs located in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. She also inhaled ketamine in a restroom near Surf Beach in Yangyang-gun, Gangwon Province.
Ms. A repeatedly smoked liquid marijuana as well. After transferring 800,000 won to a drug dealer she met through Telegram, she collected liquid marijuana hidden in a park in Dongjak-gu, Seoul. She then smoked this liquid marijuana multiple times at her residence, on the street, and at pubs. Additionally, Ms. A used methamphetamine and MDMA (commonly known as 'Ecstasy') at a hotel in Gangnam, Seoul.

The court pointed out, "Drug crimes are serious offenses that are difficult to detect due to their nature, have a high risk of recidivism, and cause significant harm to society due to their hallucinogenic and addictive properties," emphasizing the gravity of the crime. Regarding the sentencing, the court explained, "However, the defendant admitted to all charges and showed remorse, and considering that she was an immature 17-year-old at the time of the crime and is currently an 18-year-old student, these factors were taken into account."
