Dipuljeong Gojin Chairman Emphasizes 'Government Role in the AI Era' in UAE
Ko Jin, Chairman of the Digital Platform Government Committee, attended the International Government Communication Forum (IGCF) held in Sharjah, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on the 13th (local time) and shared the status of South Korea's digital platform government initiatives and artificial intelligence (AI) policies.
Started in 2012, this forum is an annual event that shares policy-related experiences and future strategies such as intergovernmental communication innovation with Arab and global governments.
Chairman Ko is visiting the region at the invitation of Prince Saud bin Sultan Al Qasimi of Sharjah. At this forum, he participated in a session titled "Ethical Issues in the AI Era and Government Strategies."
Chairman Ko stated, "Many risks of AI have already surfaced. Guidelines are necessary to ensure AI is used beneficially for humans," and added, "The government must play the most crucial role in establishing these guidelines, and competition among countries worldwide for this is very intense."
He continued, "The Korean government is preparing policy measures to allow the government and public institutions to utilize the latest large language models (LLM) developed by companies in a secure environment. The Korean government also plans to propose ways to fairly evaluate the reliability of generative AI."
Furthermore, regarding ethics in the AI era and the establishment of new guidelines, Chairman Ko said, "Following the New York Initiative announced by the President of the Republic of Korea last September, the country is envisioning a Bill of Rights for the digital new order era and will soon present a future vision and principles that global citizens should collectively pursue regarding digital matters, including AI."

Meanwhile, Chairman Ko met with high-ranking officials including Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, co-ruler of Sharjah and host of this event, and Sheikh Fahim Al Qasimi, Chairman of the Sharjah Government Relations Department, to share the development status of Korean LLMs and government-exclusive super-large AI projects and to explore cooperation plans with Korean companies.
