'Excessive Pesticide Detected in Chinese Wood Ear Mushrooms'... Sales Suspended and Recall Ordered
The Ministry of Food and Drug Safety announced on the 13th that residual pesticide 'Carbendazim' was detected above the standard limit (0.01 mg/kg or less) in Chinese wood ear mushrooms sold on the market, and that the products will be suspended from sale and recalled. Carbendazim is a systemic fungicide used to control insects on grains, fruits, and vegetables.

The recall targets are wood ear mushrooms imported by Freshco and repackaged and sold by Shinwang F&B, and those imported by Daesung Trading and repackaged and sold by Hanseong Food. The former is packaged on December 31, 2020, with an expiration date of May 30 next year, in 600g packages, and the latter was packaged on May 20 this year, repackaged on the 7th of last month, and has expiration dates of August 7 next year for 100g, 350g, and 900g products. Carbendazim was detected at 0.23 mg/kg and 0.75 mg/kg in these products, which are 23 times and 75 times the standard limit, respectively.
