Reading Month Programs Found Throughout the Neighborhoods of Gwanak-gu?
Meeting with Authors, Lectures, and Experiences: A Neighborhood-Wide Reading Culture Program... Celebrate Reading Month in September with Performances, Lectures, and Hands-On Activities
"Moving beyond simply reading texts to experiencing books through performances, lectures, or hands-on activities makes reading even more enjoyable."
A resident of Gwanak-gu, enjoying a hobby at the local library, shared their thoughts.
Gwanak-gu (Mayor Park Junhee) is operating various reading culture programs this September in celebration of Reading Month, enriching the lives and hearts of its residents.
The district has been well-received by residents for promoting diverse reading culture programs linked with various genres such as performances, exhibitions, and book talks in collaboration with Gwanak-gu public libraries. Furthermore, this autumn, ideal for reading, the district continues to engage residents with diverse tastes through a variety of programs.
First, on September 14, at Yongkkumkkuneun Small Library, the program "What if ChatGPT Stole My Thoughts?" with author Kim Miju is scheduled. It will explain knowledge copyright in an easy-to-understand way, targeting teenagers and adults interested in ChatGPT.
Next, on September 16, a "Literacy Class: How to Read and Write Well" aimed at strengthening literacy will be held. This lecture is designed to enhance reading comprehension and writing skills necessary for forming reading habits, and anyone interested can participate. It will also take place at Yongkkumkkuneun Small Library.
On September 23, the film screening program based on a book, "Byulbyul Cinema: Wonder," is planned. Byulbyul Cinema will be held at ‘Byuldabang,’ a resident-friendly cultural platform inside Geulbit Information Library.
Park Sohyun, a librarian at Geulbit Information Library, expressed anticipation, saying, "Byulbyul Cinema is a reading culture corner that meets various genres, and we hope the visual effects will convey the original work's meaning more vividly."
The district is also running programs for children that contribute to fostering child-friendly art culture. The children's workshop experience "Let's Play by Making" is a hands-on program where children can express their creativity through their five senses, operating until September 27 at the Children's Lounge in Gwanak Art Hall.
Alongside this, the district plans to encourage residents' participation by conducting engaging events such as giving out book bundle bags and subscription tickets, and lending book picnic sets to promote reading culture.
The Gwanak-gu Reading Month programs can be experienced at nine public libraries within the district (▲Gwanak Central Library ▲Geulbit Information Library ▲Nakseongdae Park Library ▲Yongkkumkkuneun Small Library ▲Euncheon-dong Small Library ▲Jowon Library ▲Thank You Hanangok Small Library ▲Seonghyeon-dong Small Library ▲Chaegirangnori Library).
