'3rd Annual' Suwon World Heritage City Forum Opens on the 11th

View original imageThe city of Suwon in Gyeonggi Province will hold the "2023 Suwon World Heritage Cities Forum" at the Suwon Convention Center from the 11th to the 12th of this month.
Now in its third year, the Suwon World Heritage Cities Forum is a flagship event in the field of world heritage that enhances Suwon’s city brand value as a leader in the world heritage sector and discusses the sustainability of world heritage cities.
Under the theme of "Utilization of World Heritage," this year’s forum will open on the 11th with an opening ceremony, followed by a special performance of "Muye 24gi" by the Suwon City Performance Group. Han Kyung-gu, Secretary-General of the UNESCO Korea Committee, will deliver the keynote speech titled "The Value of Utilization for the Sustainability of World Heritage."
During the sessions, under the theme "Utilization of World Heritage (Heritage X)," cases of creating easy and enjoyable content using world heritage in the fields of metaverse, social contribution projects, and media will be introduced, presenting sustainable future directions for cities coexisting with world heritage.
Various side events will also be held during the forum period.
The Suwon Cultural Foundation and Suwon Convention Center will co-host the "Heritage Festa" from the 9th to the 12th. This event will feature unique local content from Suwon, special pop-up exhibitions where various companies reinterpret world heritage, and collaborative works with world heritage by artist Lee Jong-gi. Additionally, a "Mentoring Lounge" will be operated to provide students aspiring to enter the cultural heritage field with vivid experiences and career counseling from active professionals. Mentors include Ki Jin-seok, Curator at Jeju World Natural Heritage Center; Gil Ji-hye, Senior Researcher at Seoul National University Environmental Planning Institute; Kim Nam-woong, Specialist at UNESCO World Heritage International Interpretation and Education Center; and Jeon Beom-hwan, Director of International Cooperation at the Korea Cultural Heritage Foundation.
A representative of Suwon Convention Center stated, "The 2023 Suwon World Heritage Cities Forum will be an opportunity for citizens and cultural heritage experts to discuss the future of our city through engaging topics," adding, "Stories that make world heritage easy and fun to approach are prepared."
