Hit-and-Run Death of 60s Pedestrian in School Zone... Drunk Driving by Offender
A pedestrian in his 60s was fatally struck by a vehicle driven by a drunk driver in a children's protection zone (school zone).
According to the Dongnae Police Station in Busan on the 1st, at around 9:40 p.m. on the 30th of last month, an SUV driven by a man in his 30s, Mr. A, hit a man in his 60s, Mr. B, in the school zone on Oncheoncheon-ro, Dongnae-gu, Busan. At the time, Mr. A fled the scene immediately without providing first aid.
Mr. B was taken to the hospital for treatment but ultimately passed away.
After the accident, citizens and police chased Mr. A and caught him in a parking lot 700 meters away from the accident site. It was investigated that Mr. A was driving under the influence with a blood alcohol concentration at the level warranting license cancellation when the accident occurred. Mr. A reportedly stated that he did not realize he had hit a person.
