Geochang-gun Launches Technical Advisory Group for Defect Repair of Handeul Bridge

Full Effort on Advisory Panel Formation and Revision Work
Geochang-gun, Gyeongnam Province, is collaborating with the construction company to ensure perfect repairs, ranging from minor repairs to reinforcement of the Handul Bridge in Geochang-eup, by establishing and operating the 'Handul Bridge Defect Repair Task Force (TF) and Technical Advisory Group.'
The Defect Repair Task Force (TF) is led by Vice Governor Lee Jong-ha as the general team leader and operates in a collaborative system with the construction company. The Technical Advisory Group consists of eight appointed experts, including professors specializing in civil engineering and technical specialists in various fields such as structure, soil and foundation, ground and geology, and maintenance.

View original imageAs part of the defect repair execution plan, the county will analyze the causes of defects through the Technical Advisory Group and derive corresponding repair and reinforcement measures, proceeding with prioritized and phased repair and reinforcement work.
Starting with an on-site inspection by the advisory group on the 31st of last month, the county has begun analyzing the causes of defects with the goal of completing the work within the year. Simple repair work such as cracks on the Handul Bridge is planned to commence in September. For areas requiring reinforcement, comprehensive discussions and reviews will be conducted through the advisory group considering engineering, functional, and social aspects to plan the reinforcement work.

Governor Koo In-mo stated, “To alleviate the concerns of residents caused by defects in the Handul Bridge, we plan to establish and implement a detailed and accurate defect repair plan through the operation of the advisory group. We have instructed solid construction to prevent similar issues from occurring at large construction sites currently underway in the county, and we will do our best in maintenance by introducing a dedicated bridge doctor system for major bridges in the future.”
