County Governor Gu In-mo is meeting with Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Park Min-sik to request national funding support for local projects.
View original imageAt this meeting, Mayor Gu stated that the Gajo Gimi Independence Movement Memorial Tower, installed in 1981, is a representative 3.1 Movement monument in the Geochang area, but there is a shortage of memorial facilities and parking lots. He requested active consideration to ensure the project is reflected as much as possible in the government budget and also proposed the construction of a veterans' resort in the southern region.
The veterans' resort, built in 1996 in Chungju City, is the only one nationwide and is used by many national veterans and their families. However, due to accessibility issues in the southern region and the increase in veterans, there are difficulties in usage during peak seasons. Emphasizing that Geochang County, as a central city in the southern inland region and a premium education city, has optimal conditions for stay-type forest leisure tourism, he proposed that a southern region veterans' resort be established there.
Minister Park said, "I think it is a good proposal," and added, "We will consider installing facilities that can serve as a place for the rest of national veterans, patriotism education for future generations such as youth, and even educational programs for countries that participated in the Korean War."
