A total of 12 standing committees, including the National Assembly's Strategy and Finance Committee, will relocate to the Sejong Assembly Hall.
The National Assembly Steering Committee held a plenary session on the 30th and approved the "Regulations on the Establishment and Operation of the National Assembly Sejong Assembly Hall," which includes this plan.
The standing committees moving to Sejong are a total of 12, including the Political Affairs Committee, Strategy and Finance Committee, Education Committee, Science, Technology, Information and Broadcasting Communications Committee, Public Administration and Security Committee, Culture, Sports and Tourism Committee, Agriculture, Food, Rural Affairs, Oceans and Fisheries Committee, Industry, Trade, Energy, Small and Medium Enterprises Committee, Health and Welfare Committee, Environment and Labor Committee, Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, and the Special Committee on Budget and Accounts, all of which oversee administrative departments located in Sejong City. Departments supporting these committees will also move to Sejong.
Among the standing committees, six committees that oversee administrative departments located in Seoul?the Steering Committee, Legislation and Judiciary Committee, National Defense Committee, Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee, Women and Family Committee, and Intelligence Committee?will remain at the current National Assembly building.
Additionally, the National Assembly Budget Office, National Assembly Legislative Research Office, and National Assembly Future Institute are also included in the relocation to the Sejong Assembly Hall. The National Assembly Library will remain in Seoul but will establish a branch at the Sejong Assembly Hall.
Lee Yang-su, chairman of the National Assembly Operations Improvement Subcommittee and member of the People Power Party, explained, "As a result of the review, we considered relocating the Legislation and Judiciary Committee to the National Assembly Sejong Assembly Hall and including one member recommended by non-negotiating parties in the National Assembly Sejong Assembly Hall Construction Committee. We also mandated that the National Assembly Secretariat report annually to the National Assembly Steering Committee on measures to improve inefficiencies caused by the relocation to the Sejong Assembly Hall."
