Successful Briefing Hosted by Gangnam-gu on the 24th... Mongolian Ministry of Health Awards Gangnam-gu and Gangnam Severance Hospital with Medical Sharing Appreciation Plaques
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held the ‘Gangnam Medical Tourism Overseas Briefing’ (2023 BE WELL in MEDICAL GANGNAM) on the 24th at the Millennium Plaza Hotel in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia, to target the emerging medical tourism market in Mongolia.
Last year, 14,148 Mongolian medical tourists visited Korea, ranking sixth after the United States, China, and others. Mongolia is an emerging medical tourism market, with over 80,000 people spending between 120 million and 150 million USD annually on overseas medical treatment due to a lack of severe treatment infrastructure, of which about 50 million USD is spent in Korea.
The district planned a systematic promotional strategy to target Mongolian medical tourists in 2023, conducting ▲Phase 1: Familiarization tour inviting Mongolian health and medical officials ▲Phase 2: Charity medical treatment, and now ▲Phase 3: Local briefing session.
The local briefing session in Mongolia on the 24th, hosted by Gangnam-gu, was attended by six cooperating medical institutions in the region (▲Gangnam Severance Hospital ▲Gangnam CHA Hospital ▲Nanuri Hospital ▲Live Dental Clinic ▲View Venereal Disease Clinic ▲Stantop Urology Clinic). A total of 30 Mongolian medical institutions and medical tourism-related organizations were invited for business meetings, promoting the excellence of Gangnam-gu’s medical tourism, the district’s unique ‘one-stop concierge service,’ and the medical tourism platform ‘Medical Gangnam.’
At the briefing, a charity medical case was presented about the ear reconstruction of Mandakh, a 14-year-old Mongolian girl with congenital microtia, performed in July. The Mongolian Ministry of Health presented a letter of appreciation to Gangnam-gu and Gangnam Severance Hospital.
On the 24th and 25th, mutual exchanges and practical cooperation discussions will be held by visiting the Mongolian National Maternity Hospital and Mongolian National First Hospital, which participated in the Gangnam-gu familiarization tour in May. On the 25th, there is a plan to appear on MNB Mongolian National Broadcasting to introduce Gangnam-gu’s specialized medical tourism projects and interview about the charity medical case.
From the 25th to the 27th, Gangnam-gu will operate a promotional booth at the Korea Medical Tourism Expo hosted by the Korea Tourism Organization at Chinggis Khaan Square in Mongolia. Promotional events and consultations will be conducted for local visitors. Additionally, a B2B briefing session will be held for one-on-one business consultations between medical institutions and buyers.
