Isangik Hampyeong County Governor Arrest and Prosecution Demand: 6th Rally of Hampyeong Residents Held
The Isang-ik Hampyeong County Governor Dismissal Struggle Headquarters (hereinafter referred to as the Struggle Headquarters) held its sixth rally in front of the Mokpo Branch of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office since July 21.
On the 24th, the Struggle Headquarters announced that it held a Hampyeong residents' rally at the Mokpo Branch of the Gwangju District Prosecutors' Office, urging the arrest of the Hampyeong County Governor for bribery.
On that day, through an appeal letter, the Struggle Headquarters expressed outrage, stating that the Mokpo Branch is protecting high-ranking officials involved in bribery.
They claim that the 10 million won suit payment received by Governor Isang-ik was provided by a construction contractor to secure public construction projects ordered by Hampyeong County.
Lee Haeng-seop, co-representative of the Struggle Headquarters, said, “There are media reports that the prosecution intends to handle Governor Isang-ik Hampyeong’s bribery case under the Kim Young-ran Act or dismiss it without charges,” and added, “The prosecution should stop delaying and indict Governor Isang-ik Hampyeong on bribery charges.”
Kim Kwang-sik, co-representative of the Struggle Headquarters, submitted a 'Petition Urging the Arrest of Governor Isang-ik Hampyeong for Bribery' to the prosecution, demanding, “The prosecution must fulfill its role to create a just society free from corruption.”
He also urged the indictment and arrest of Governor Isang-ik Hampyeong, stating, “As long as public officials who accepted bribes remain unpunished, the prosecution cannot shed the stigma of being a political prosecution.”
