The term of the newly elected chairman and executives will be two years, from the 1st of next month until August 30, 2025. Shin Dong-jik, CEO of Medizen Human Care, was appointed as vice chairman, and Teragen Bio, Macrogen, DNA Link, LabGenomics, and AccuGene were elected as operating committee members.
The Genome Companies Council, established in 2015 as an official consultative body of domestic genome-related companies, aims to conduct research and respond to regulations related to genome analysis service licensing and to improve policies. Currently, 28 companies are members. The council has promoted government-related activities and cooperation among companies for the development of the domestic genome industry, including revising the Bioethics Act and introducing formal certification regulations for Direct-to-Consumer (DTC) testing.
In April and June, the council held consecutive meetings attended by health authorities to gather opinions from the industry. Through this, the council explained that it is striving to activate bio-genome research and industry and to create an organic cooperative environment within the domestic bio-ecosystem.
In his inaugural speech, newly appointed Chairman Choi Dae-chul said, "Internally, we will expand membership and strengthen unity among companies, and externally, we will actively promote government-related activities to ensure the proper use of genome products and services and the development of related industries." He added, "We will lead the activation of the domestic genome industry by expanding beyond the DTC field, enhancing mutual exchange among members, and fostering close cooperation with other industries."
