Plan to Expand 'Global Market' Starting from North America
Paris Baguette of SPC Group and Tous Les Jours of CJ Foodville, the two major pillars of 'K-Bakery,' are intensifying their efforts to capture the North American market. This is interpreted as a strategy to expand the global market starting from the North American market, moving beyond the saturated domestic market. To this end, both companies have set a goal to open 1,000 stores each in the North American region by 2030.

On the 24th, Paris Baguette announced its goal to sign over 160 franchise contracts and open more than 60 stores in the United States this year. In the first half of the year alone, it signed 66 franchise contracts and opened more than 20 stores.
Since entering the U.S. market in 2005, Paris Baguette currently operates 139 stores, including 13 stores in Manhattan, the heart of New York City.
An SPC official stated, "We currently operate over 450 stores in 10 countries worldwide, and last year, our overseas subsidiaries recorded sales of 450 billion KRW, continuing steady growth in our global business." He emphasized, "Paris Baguette demonstrates competitiveness in the global market based on excellent bakery technology and know-how that represent Korea."
The number of Tous Les Jours stores in the U.S. increased from 59 at the end of 2019 to 72 at the end of 2021, and currently stands at 100. The plan is to expand to 120 stores within this year and to 1,000 stores by 2030.
The U.S. subsidiary turned a profit for the first time among CJ Foodville's overseas subsidiaries in 2018 and has increased its profit margin for five consecutive years. Tous Les Jours operates about 380 global stores across six countries, including Vietnam and Indonesia.
Professor Eunhee Lee of Inha University's Department of Consumer Studies said, "Korean bread is delicate and comes in many varieties, so I believe it is competitive in the global market. Since the perception of K-Food in overseas markets has greatly improved, this is the optimal time to enter foreign markets, and I strongly recommend it."
