Sharing Major Issues and Municipal Development with Masan Forum Members
Hong Nampyo, Mayor of Changwon Special City, Gyeongnam, attended the ‘Masan Forum, Changwon Mayor Invitation Meeting’ held at the Masan 3·15 Art Center International Conference Hall on the 22nd, where he explained city administration and the direction of Masan’s development, and listened to policy proposals from forum members.
The meeting was organized by the Masan Forum, a non-profit organization, to discuss Masan’s current issues and development plans, with about 70 forum members attending.

View original imageFollowing the welcoming remarks by Han Cheolsu and Jeong Gwangsik, co-chairs of the Masan Forum, Mayor Hong announced five major city administration strategies: ▲ Establishing an innovation-driven economic foundation ▲ Creating an inclusive welfare and happy ecosystem ▲ Developing a cultured and refined city environment ▲ Restructuring the integrated urban spatial structure ▲ Realizing the dreams and hopes of youth, and then presented the direction Masan should take for regional development.
As directions for Masan’s development, Mayor Hong stated plans to transform the entire city toward the future by ▲ fostering ICT-based knowledge industries through the advancement of industrial complex structures ▲ restoring the public nature of the sea by connecting coastlines ▲ overcoming road system limitations through expanding transportation networks such as constructing underground roads.
During the ‘Policy Proposals and Responses’ session, various opinions were raised, including ▲ securing national funding support for the Masan Bay Marine New Town development project ▲ revitalizing the tourism industry utilizing the Gusan and Samjin coastlines ▲ adjusting the toll fees of the Machang Bridge ▲ reflecting budgets for seismic repair and maintenance of the Changwon Overpass (from Guam-dong to Sogye Square lanes).

After listening to the members’ opinions, Mayor Hong said, “For policies to be effective, communication between those implementing the policies and those receiving them must be smooth,” adding, “This should not end with just one meeting. Going forward, I will do my best to work closely and communicate with people from all walks of life who love Masan, so that we can achieve tangible results that citizens can feel.”
