Enhancing SDV Competitiveness... FortyTwoDot Obtains International Certification for Vehicle Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity Management System Based on ISO 21434
42dot announced on the 22nd that it has received the Cybersecurity Management System (CSMS) certification based on ISO 21434, the international standard for automotive cybersecurity engineering. The company stated that it will apply international-level security requirements throughout the entire process of transitioning to SDV (Software Defined Vehicle) to proactively respond to cyber threats and provide a mobility experience with the highest level of security capabilities.
ISO 21434 is a standard defined by the International Organization for Standardization, created by standard institutions from over 160 countries worldwide, which specifies cybersecurity processes and requirements from vehicle design, development, testing, mass production, and subsequent stages.
Through this certification, 42dot not only proactively introduced a cybersecurity management system to strengthen SDV security but also met global security standards including those in Europe and North America. The company also obtained ISO 27001 (International Standard for Information Security Management System), established by the International Organization for Standardization last year.

Recently, cyber threats have increased along with vehicle connectivity and automation. As vehicles evolve into software-centric systems, the number of source code lines embedded in vehicles is increasing exponentially. The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE) has mandated that vehicles be equipped with systems capable of countering cyberattacks. Since July last year, all new vehicles released in 56 contracting countries must obtain CSMS certification to be sold in major markets such as Europe and Japan. From July 2024, this requirement will apply to all vehicles.
Jody Nelson, Vice President of Automotive and Industrial Cybersecurity & Functional Safety at UL Solutions, said, “We were able to confirm 42dot’s professional capabilities in cybersecurity and a substantial level of security policies and processes,” adding, “Based on this, they have successfully established a CSMS that complies with international automotive cybersecurity standards, covering cyber threat analysis, software update management, post-development reporting, and end-of-life cybersecurity support.”
