Jeju Samdasoo Launches Industry-First QR Code-Enabled Label-Free Product
Jeju Samdasoo Green Introduces Global Standard QR Code on All Products and Begins Individual Sales
Jeju Samdasoo announced on the 17th that it will launch ‘Jeju Samdasoo Green,’ the first unlabeled product in the domestic drinking water industry to introduce QR codes, next month.
Jeju Development Corporation had been selling the unlabeled product ‘Jeju Samdasoo Green’ only in packs due to mandatory labeling requirements for drinking water. With the allowance this year to display mandatory labeling information and sell drinking water products individually through QR codes, ‘Jeju Samdasoo Green’ can now be purchased individually at convenience stores and supermarkets. Accordingly, Jeju Development Corporation completed the development and production system implementation of unlabeled products with QR codes in the first half of this year and first showcased ‘Jeju Samdasoo Green’ with QR codes at a pop-up store earlier this month.
With the start of individual sales of unlabeled products in the second half of the year, the production volume of ‘Jeju Samdasoo Green,’ currently at about 30%, will gradually increase to 50% of total production by 2025. To this end, Jeju Special Self-Governing Province Development Corporation, which produces and sells Jeju Samdasoo, signed a business agreement with the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry on the same day regarding the ‘Expansion of unlabeled products using global GS1 standard QR codes and promotion of resource recycling.’ Through this agreement, both parties promised cooperation on ▲applying and promoting the standard QR code for Jeju Samdasoo unlabeled products ▲mutual cooperation to activate distribution standard codes in the drinking water sector ▲efforts to expand unlabeled products and promote recycling, as well as ESG management through the spread of global standard QR codes and unlabeled products.
The international distribution standard code is a QR code developed by GS1, the world’s largest non-profit private international standards organization. Jeju Samdasoo introduced QR codes on unlabeled bottles to display mandatory drinking water labeling information, and plans to implement not only mandatory labeling information but also traceability, separation and disposal information, and POS calculation systems all through a single QR code in the future.
