Gyeongbuk Office of Education Visits Central and South America Guatemala... 'Educational Informatization Exchange Cooperation'
Gyeongbuk Office of Education (Superintendent Lim Jong-sik) successfully completed an eight-day visit to the Republic of Guatemala from the 7th to the 14th to promote educational informatization exchange and cooperation.
This visit was arranged to implement the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on educational informatization exchange and cooperation between the two countries and to re-sign a new MOU with additional provisions.

View original imageThe delegation visited the local Ministry of Education, where senior officials including ministers and vice ministers participated in a certificate handover ceremony for 299 informatization devices, and conducted detailed discussions on signing the new MOU.
Minister Claudia expressed deep gratitude for Gyeongbuk Office of Education’s cooperation in educational informatization exchange and personally briefed on the mid- to long-term educational informatization plan that has been established and implemented since last year.
In particular, she explained that solar panels and internet installations have begun for schools with weak infrastructure such as electricity (11 schools in 2022, 44 schools in 2023), and efforts are being made to strengthen the training system led by model teachers who visited Gyeongbuk Office of Education to enhance teachers’ informatization capabilities.
Additionally, the delegation visited three schools including Santo Domingo National High School to inspect computers supported by Gyeongbuk Office of Education and provided consulting on how to utilize informatization equipment in classes.
Local teachers and students expressed deep gratitude for being able to attend classes using actual computers, and the 13th District National High School, where an advanced ICT classroom was installed (Principal Marco Antonio Tepaz), presented a plaque of appreciation to Gyeongbuk Office of Education.
At the welcome ceremony, Rubia Etirera, a senior in the Computer Science Department, said, “I am grateful for establishing the best computer environment in Guatemala, and I want to study coding diligently to work at a Korean company.”
Furthermore, on-site training on ICT content utilization, AI, and metaverse was directly demonstrated in the first conference room of the Guatemalan Ministry of Education for 20 local teachers, and the delegation also participated in a performance presentation by local model agents who had visited Gyeongbuk.
As the final schedule, the delegation visited the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Guatemala (Ambassador Cheon Jun-ho) to explain the exchange and cooperation projects and requested active cooperation for smooth exchanges between the two countries.

Superintendent Lim Jong-sik of Gyeongbuk Office of Education stated, “This project has steadily contributed to closing the information gap and improving educational conditions in Guatemala by transferring Korea’s excellent ICT utilization technology and successful experience and know-how in educational informatization,” adding, “Gyeongbuk education will play a leading role in raising ICT levels in developing countries and contributing to the international community to become a global standard in education.”
