Focused Introduction to Austrian Wine

Hosted by Asia Economy, the '2023 Global Wine and Food Trip' will be held on August 25-26 at the Floating Island on Sebitseom in Seocho-gu, Seoul. Major domestic wine importers and food companies will participate, providing an opportunity to taste a variety of regional wines and enjoy food pairings.

'Wellgreen Radler' will focus on introducing Austrian wines at this event. Representative wines include Zantho Sauvignon Blanc, Hoellerer Cuvee Barrique Zweigelt Merlot, and Winzer Krems Kellermeister Blauer Zweigelt Reserve.

Zantho, Sauvignon Blanc

The Zantho winery is well known for producing eco-friendly wines. The forest lizard on the label symbolizes the Hansag area, a nature reserve within Andau, representing Zantho wine’s identity and its natural cultivation methods. Zantho Sauvignon Blanc offers a strong scent of tropical fruits like passion fruit and citrus notes of lemon and lime. Its rich fruit aroma and fresh acidity balance the texture well, with a clear acidity that lasts until the finish.

The Hoellerer winery is located between the Kamp Valley and Wagram near Krems. This region features diverse geological structures, including loess layers, gneiss, and terraced gravel, creating unique and varied terrain. Having cultivated grapes for over 200 years, the Hoellerer winery has accumulated viticulture and winemaking expertise over multiple generations, continuously evolving to produce high-quality wines.

Among their offerings, the Cuvee Barrique Zweigelt Merlot is a blended wine with a strong aroma from Zweigelt and Merlot. Berry scents hit the nose, while flavors of Western cherries linger in the mouth, accompanied by subtle tannins. Serving it slightly chilled can enhance the wine’s flavor.

Winzer Krems, Kellermeister Blauer Zweigelt Reserve

The Winzer Krems Kellermeister Reserve Blauer Zweigelt is an oak and barrique-aged wine characterized by a rich fruit aroma in the mouth. Notes of red cherry and cherry tree fruit blend with spicy scents, complemented by smooth tannins and a dense body. The dark chocolate flavor on the finish is velvety soft and long-lasting.

Winzer Krems is a leading winery in the Krems region, sourcing high-quality grapes from about 900 nearby vineyards. The Krems area has been producing wine for over 2,000 years and is renowned for its excellent Austrian wine history, supported by favorable climate conditions, soil, and the expertise of skilled grape growers.
