145 Arrested for Knife-Related Crimes One Week After the 'Seohyeon Station Incident'
In the special police security operations conducted following the 'Seohyeon Station stabbing' incident, it was revealed that 145 suspects were arrested for knife-related crimes within a week.
The National Police Agency announced on the 14th that from the 4th to 9 a.m. on the 11th, they apprehended 145 suspects involved in knife-related crimes through inspections and searches, of whom 21 were detained. Among them, 12 individuals diagnosed with mental illnesses were placed under emergency hospitalization.
Of the 145 suspects, 14 were arrested on charges of attempted murder or preparation for murder, and 60 were charged with violent crimes involving knives such as aggravated assault, threats, and battery.
On the 4th, a man in his 40s was arrested and detained on the 6th in Yongin, Gyeonggi Province, for attempting to kill a pastor he knew by bringing a knife to a church building. On the 8th, a man in his 40s was detained in Daegu for wandering the streets with a knife, verbally abusing pedestrians, and scratching utility poles while causing a disturbance. The police confiscated several knives found in his bag.
Cases of mentally ill individuals wielding knives and being placed under emergency hospitalization also surged. On the 9th, in Wanju, Jeonbuk, a suspect was caught by police after tying a knife to a tree in front of an apartment complex gate with a string and was administratively hospitalized. On the 11th, in Sangju, Gyeongbuk, a suspect with a level 2 physical disability was arrested for threatening family members with a knife and was placed under emergency hospitalization. A day earlier, on the 10th, in Cheongju, Chungbuk, a suspect who voluntarily reported to 112 threatening to kill a security guard with whom he had a dispute was apprehended by police and placed under emergency hospitalization.

Seventy-one individuals who were simply found carrying knives during inspections and searches received fines under the Minor Offenses Act. There were also two cases where suspects were identified as illegal immigrants and handed over to the immigration office.
