National Institute of Infectious Diseases, Korea-US Collaborative Clinical Trial Begins Domestically
Global Clinical Collaboration for Emerging Infectious Disease Preparedness Kicks Off
The National Institute of Infectious Diseases at the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency's National Institute of Health announced on the 10th that it will start a clinical trial (STRIVE) in Korea in collaboration with the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) to prepare for emerging infectious diseases.
In April last year, the National Institute of Infectious Diseases signed a memorandum of understanding for research cooperation with the U.S. National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases. As part of this, a multinational clinical trial collaboration system is being established. The STRIVE clinical trial is a new global clinical trial system initiated by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases for developing pandemic preparedness therapeutics. Initially, it evaluates newly developed antiviral drugs and immunomodulators targeting COVID-19 patients.
The National Institute of Infectious Diseases is organizing a national clinical research network to facilitate smooth participation of domestic hospitals and researchers in the clinical trial, coordinating the entire process from planning to conducting and managing the trial.
