On the 8th, Cho shared a post by Hwang Hyun-sun, Vice Chair of the Democratic Party's Strategic Planning Committee, on his Facebook, condemning it as "the garbage-like acts of garbage-like people."
Vice Chair Hwang posted a screenshot of a YouTube Shorts video titled "Lee Jun-seok Cho Min Marriage Pregnancy Childbirth" on her Facebook, criticizing, "What on earth are they thinking... No human being could spread such lies to a family already struggling. Aren't they afraid of punishment?"
The video titled "Breaking News: Lee Jun-seok and Cho Kuk's daughter Cho Min to marry in November!! It's chaos" details the specific date and location of the wedding, stating, "Politician Lee Jun-seok and former Minister Cho Kuk's daughter Cho Min will hold a luxurious wedding at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul on November 15 this year," with detailed mentions of the wedding date and venue.
As of noon on the 9th, the post has not been deleted and has surpassed 300,000 views. 'YouTube fake news' is not subject to the Press Arbitration Act or the Broadcasting Act. Therefore, it can only be punished through a 'cyber defamation' lawsuit, but experts say the cost and time required are considerable.
Given this situation, there are calls to expand the scope of relief by including new media such as YouTube under the Press Arbitration Act. YouTube takes measures such as restricting monetization and account suspension for videos containing false information or defamation, but clear standards have not been disclosed.
