Yoon Initiates Discussion on 'Contingency Plan'
As Typhoon 'Khanun' is expected to approach the Korean Peninsula, all participants of the 2023 Saemangeum World Scout Jamboree are scheduled to leave the Saemangeum Jamboree site.
The World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) issued a statement on its website on the afternoon of the 7th, stating, "This morning, we received confirmation from the government of the Republic of Korea that due to the anticipated impact of Typhoon Khanun, all participants of the 25th World Scout Jamboree will depart early from the Saemangeum campsite."
It added, "The government will soon notify WOSM of detailed plans for departure and locations to accommodate participants," and said, "WOSM is working closely with the government and all national delegations to support the departure of participants and is continuously urging the government to provide all necessary resources and support during their stay until they return to their home countries."
According to the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, the supervising ministry, plans are being discussed to move all participants to shelters nationwide, including Seoul, due to the typhoon's impact. The Jamboree Organizing Committee held a briefing this afternoon and plans to announce detailed information after consultations with relevant ministries and WOSM.
Earlier, Kim Eun-hye, the presidential office's chief spokesperson, stated in a written briefing, "President Yoon Suk-yeol received and reviewed a report this morning from Prime Minister Han Duck-soo and Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min on the Jamboree contingency plan in preparation for the typhoon. As Typhoon 'Khanun' is forecasted to change course and make landfall on the Korean Peninsula this week, the President began discussing Plan B with relevant ministers since yesterday to ensure the safety of Scout participants. The contingency plan means that the Scouts’ accommodations and remaining schedule may be relocated to Seoul or the metropolitan area."
