Democratic Party Visits Incheon Rebar Omission Apartment Site... "LH Must Quickly Prepare Countermeasures"
The Democratic Party of Korea visited the site of substandard construction at an apartment in Geomdan New Town, Incheon, where the underground parking lot collapsed due to missing rebar, on the 4th, and demanded that the client, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), promptly prepare countermeasures.
The Democratic Party's Minsheng Filling Team visited the public housing project site at 'Incheon Geomdan AA13-2 Block' in the afternoon and received a report from LH on the cause of the accident, investigation progress, and future measures.
Floor leader Park Kwang-on emphasized, "For the residential complex, the residents will likely feel a great deal of anxiety. Extraordinary measures are needed to alleviate this anxiety."
He added, "Cost is a secondary issue when it comes to relieving anxiety and ensuring safety. Generally, design or construction deficiencies are thought to result from trying to save costs. If safety remains insufficient even after reinforcement following such an accident, there will be nothing more to say."
He continued, "Although this may not be the place to say it, LH must have the determination to reform itself and the resolve to make painful sacrifices."
Floor leader Park also met with prospective residents protesting at the site that day. He said, "We will inspect all issues, including whether LH followed proper procedures to spend costs appropriately according to its founding purpose, and whether the supervisors were properly selected."
The Democratic Party decided to form a separate task force (TF) within the floor to respond to this 'missing rebar' incident. Member of Parliament Maeng Seong-gyu will serve as the head of the TF, and Jang Cheol-min, a member of the Land, Infrastructure and Transport Committee, will serve as the secretary.
Regarding whether to conduct a national audit to investigate the truth of this incident, Floor leader Park said, "The People Power Party initially suggested it but then changed to forming their own TF. Conducting a national audit now will not solve the issue; the government must first thoroughly grasp the actual situation."

He also said, "Private apartments using the Mu-ryang-pan construction method should also be thoroughly investigated to understand the situation, and any parts requiring investigation should be referred for prosecution. If a national audit is conducted afterward, we have no reason to oppose it."
