"If my Dream Drawing activities, which started as a scholarship student, helped me find my dream, then preparing this exhibition as a Dream Drawing mentor has become a practical and solid stepping stone for my growth as an artist. I will continue my creative activities without forgetting this time" (Artist Chaedan)
Seonggok Art Museum announced on the 4th that it held a group exhibition titled 'On Boarding' with mentors and invited artists as part of the 'Dream Drawing' emerging artist incubating program in collaboration with Hansung Motor.
'On Boarding' is one of the 'Dream of Creation' support programs for mentors within the ‘2023 New Dream Drawing’ announced by Hansung Motor earlier this year. Hansung Motor plans and implements support programs to help Dream Drawing mentors leap forward as future artists through annual surveys conducted with the Dream Drawing hopeful mentor group.
This exhibition showcases 35 works reflecting the artistic concerns of 9 Dream Drawing mentors along with three invited artists: Kwon Osang, who received the Kim Sejung Young Sculptor Award in 2013; Lee Wan, who represented the Korean Pavilion at the 2017 Venice Biennale; and Choi Sujeong, an exclusive artist of Gallery Baton.
Since March, three groups, each consisting of one invited artist and three Dream Drawing mentors, have prepared the works. These pieces were elevated to a higher level through in-depth seminars covering feedback on the mentors’ works by the invited artists, building artistic worlds, exhibition space direction, and display strategies.
The exhibition is characterized by the harmony between the high-quality works of established artists and the fresh ideas of Dream Drawing mentors who are emerging artists.
During the exhibition, representative works such as Kwon Osang’s ‘Form Leaning at an Angle Composed of Four Pieces,’ Lee Wan’s ‘Inner Unstoppable Entropy of Absolute Standards,’ and Choi Sujeong’s ‘Mugan’ will be displayed. In addition, 35 works including paintings, installations, and videos prepared over four months by the nine Dream Drawing mentors will be arranged on the first and second floors of Seonggok Art Museum’s second building.
Hansung Motor plans to provide opportunities like this exhibition so that emerging artists with limited chances in this year’s newly presented Dream Drawing program can build diverse exhibition histories. In particular, through lecture and mentoring programs, networking opportunities with established artists and curators will be provided to continuously support and manage Dream Drawing mentors broadly.
Wolf Ausprung, CEO of Hansung Motor, stated, “Through this exhibition, we expect Dream Drawing mentors to complete high-quality works with confidence and establish themselves steadily in the art world.”
