Among them, nine were employed by profit-making private companies related to their duties during their tenure, and five were employed by public institutions.
The institutions to which the violators belonged before dismissal were eight from public-related organizations, five from local governments, and one from central administrative agencies.
Among them, former district council member Mr. A was involved in having public officials participate in election campaigns for himself, and after being fined for violating the Public Official Election Act in October 2020, he was employed by a company that had supplied numerous goods to his former institution before retirement, receiving a monthly salary of 3 million won.
Mr. B, who served as the CEO of a public-related organization, was dismissed in January 2022 due to performing duties related to improper solicitation and was employed as vice president at a company that handled contracts with his former institution before retirement, receiving a monthly salary of 5 million won.
The ACRC requested that for seven of the 14 individuals, the heads of their former public institutions demand dismissal from their re-employment institutions and report the legal violations to investigative agencies. For the remaining seven, considering their temporary employment for livelihood purposes, the commission decided to urge caution to prevent recurrence.
According to Article 82 of the Act on the Prevention of Corruption and the Establishment and Management of the Anti-Corruption and Civil Rights Commission, misconduct dismissal officials are prohibited from re-employment for five years from the start date of the employment restriction period in public institutions, institutions related to corrupt acts, and profit-making private companies closely related to the departments (institutions) to which they belonged. Violations may result in imprisonment for up to two years or fines of up to 20 million won.
