Construction Management Society: "Research Project Scale Should Be Reduced to Provide Opportunities to More Researchers"
The seminar on "Current Status and Challenges of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport R&D through Domestic and International Cases," organized by the Research and Development Committee of the Korean Society of Construction Management (Chair: Professor Cha Hee-seong of Ajou University), was held on the 27th at the small conference room on the basement level 1 of the Korea Science and Technology Center in Gangnam-gu, Seoul.
This seminar was prepared to examine trends in overseas land, infrastructure, and transport R&D in countries such as the United States, Australia, and the United Kingdom, and to explore development plans for domestic land, infrastructure, and transport R&D.
The keynote presentations proceeded in the order of △ Professor Joseph Kim of California State University, "Cases and Lessons from Construction Management Research Trends in the United States" △ Professor Moon Sung-gon of Ajou University, "Cases and Lessons from Domestic Construction Management Research Trends" △ Director Moon Sang-mo of the Korea Agency for Infrastructure Technology Advancement, "Comprehensive R&D Plan of the Korea Agency for Land, Infrastructure and Transport Science and Technology Advancement."
In the subsequent discussion, chaired by Professor Yoo Jung-ho of Kwangwoon University, opinions on the development plans for land, infrastructure, and transport R&D were shared. Members attending the seminar unanimously stated, "The scale of research projects should be reduced to provide opportunities to more researchers, which is also a fundamental preventive measure against the recently emerging R&D cartel issue."
Furthermore, Professor Park Moon-seo of Seoul National University emphasized, "In conducting R&D, the proportion of researcher-led bottom-up approaches should be increased for basic knowledge research, and a two-way balance should be achieved with government-led top-down approaches through R&D roadmaps."
Additionally, attendees expressed the opinion that "a balance between overall fairness and partial differentiated support such as by region and gender must be supported."
