KOSPI Ends Slightly Higher... KOSDAQ Recovers to 900 Level on Secondary Battery Strength
The KOSPI index closed the session in a slightly positive range. The KOSDAQ index recovered above the 900 level, supported by the strong performance of secondary battery-related stocks.
On the 28th, the KOSPI index closed at 2,608.32, up 4.51 points (0.17%) from the previous day. The trading volume for the day was 495.38 million shares, with a trading value of 16.5048 trillion KRW.
By investor type, institutions were net sellers with 458.2 billion KRW, while foreigners and individuals were net buyers with 59.3 billion KRW and 392 billion KRW, respectively. In program trading, there was a net sale of 47 billion KRW in arbitrage trading and 82 billion KRW in non-arbitrage trading.
Sector performance was mixed. The paper and wood sector surged 4.94%, followed by retail up 3.46%, steel and metals 3.41%, machinery 2.11%, non-metallic minerals 1.14%, transportation equipment 1.02%, and transportation and warehousing 0.65%. On the other hand, food and beverages fell 0.99%, medical precision -0.98%, telecommunications -0.83%, and finance -0.73%.
Among the top market capitalization stocks, performance was also mixed. Samsung Electronics fell 1.53%, and Samsung Biologics dropped 0.88%. LG Chem declined 1.22%, Hyundai Motor -0.51%, and NAVER -0.24%. Conversely, LG Energy Solution rose 0.37%, SK Hynix 3.23%, POSCO Holdings 4.21%, and Samsung SDI 0.15% closed higher.
The KOSDAQ index recorded a gain of over 3% on the day. It closed at 913.74, up 29.95 points (3.39%) from the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners were net buyers with 32.7 billion KRW and 284.3 billion KRW, respectively, while individuals were net sellers with 328.6 billion KRW.
Among individual stocks, secondary battery-related stocks showed notable gains. KOSDAQ leaders Ecopro BM and Ecopro surged 8.23% and 12.08%, respectively, driving the overall index increase. Other strong performers included Celltrion Healthcare 0.63%, JYP Ent. 0.45%, POSCO DX 8.96%, and Pearl Abyss 0.91%. In contrast, L&F fell 0.21%, and HLB declined 1.24%.

Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the KRW/USD exchange rate closed at 1,277.0 KRW, down 0.7 KRW from the previous day.
