Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Gang-su) announced that it has contributed to the flood recovery efforts in Cheongyang-gun, Chungnam, which suffered severe damage due to heavy rain.
This monsoon season recorded the third highest nationwide rainfall with 641.4mm, and Cheongyang-gun was declared a special disaster area after experiencing casualties, displaced residents, and flooding and damage to roads, houses, and farmland.
In response, Mapo-gu took active steps to support flood recovery in its sister city Cheongyang-gun, with which it has maintained a cooperative relationship promoting urban-rural coexistence for several years.
On the 27th, the Mapo-gu Volunteer Center led 42 volunteers to visit the flood-affected areas of Cheongyang-gun, helping to clear debris from damaged vinyl greenhouses under the scorching heat.
Jeon Jeong-mi, head of the volunteer camp leading the team, said, “Hearing about the damage caused by the heavy rain in the region was heartbreaking. Although our contribution is small, we hope it helps the residents in distress with their flood recovery.”
Additionally, on the same day, the district provided relief supplies such as bottled water, snacks, and towels to flood victims and recovery workers, sending warm encouragement to the people of Cheongyang-gun who are in despair.
Mayor Park Gang-su stated, “I extend my deepest condolences to the residents of Cheongyang-gun who are going through difficult times due to flooding of their homes. As a sister city, I sincerely hope that Mapo-gu’s support and dedication will help them return to their daily lives as soon as possible.”
