Yeongam-gun Selected for 'Dementia Safe Village Excellent Pilot Project' Contest
Preventing and Treating Dementia by Making Dogi and Walking Gichanmutgil
Yeongam-gun Public Health Center in Jeollanam-do was finally selected for the “Dementia Safe Village Excellent Leading Project” contest hosted by the Ministry of Health and Welfare with the project “Let’s Visit Along the Gi-chan Mot-gil,” securing 27 million KRW in national funding.
“Let’s Visit Along the Gi-chan Mot-gil” in Yeongam-gun is a dementia management project based on the characteristics of the local community.
The project aims to help residents in the age group at risk of dementia prevent the disease and support dementia patients to maintain their dignity and participate in various activities within the community.
With the contest selection, Yeongam-gun Public Health Center plans to conduct various programs such as pottery making, natural dyeing experiences, and walking along the Gi-chan Mot-gil for village residents of Geomju-ri and Mojeong-ri in Gunseo-myeon, designated as dementia safe villages.

An official from the county health center said, “We are pleased that Yeongam-gun secured the second largest budget in Jeollanam-do, allowing us to provide more services to village residents,” adding, “We will help the elderly gain confidence through this project and expand their opportunities for contact and interaction with other seniors so they can live better lives.”
