Incheon Namdong-gu, Namchon-dong Urban Regeneration Project Fully Launched
Namdong-gu, Incheon is set to actively promote the Namchon-dong urban regeneration project for balanced regional development. According to the district on the 27th, starting this month with the design competition for 'Hope Flower Creative Studio,' a self-sustaining facility for the local alley market, design services for each unit project of the Namchon-dong urban regeneration project will be carried out.
The Namchon-dong urban regeneration project aims to revitalize the alley market by fostering a local brand involving public, private, industrial, and academic participation and building innovative infrastructure. The project covers an area of 520,000㎡ around 354-1 Namchon-dong, with a total budget of 24 billion KRW to be invested by 2026.
In April this year, the urban regeneration project activation plan was officially announced. From March to May, the district identified local community issues and discovered excellent ideas offering solutions through the results presentation of the resident and youth participatory urban regeneration project, 'Urban Innovation School in Incheon (Namchon)'.
Following preparatory procedures to gather residents' opinions on each unit project from May to June, the district will begin the design competition for Hope Flower Creative Studio this month and proceed with full-scale design services for each unit project.
The main components of the Namchon-dong urban regeneration project include ▲establishing the Hope Flower Creative Studio hub ▲Neighborly Harmony Yard ▲development of Namchon-ga and Dalmaji-gil ▲local brand cultivation. By improving the residential and living environment in the Namchon-dong area, the district expects to revitalize the old downtown and serve as a catalyst for regional economic activation.
Park Jong-hyo, Mayor of Namdong-gu, stated, "The urban regeneration project is a business that revitalizes the declining old downtown and aging residential areas caused by various factors such as low birth rates and aging population, enhances urban competitiveness, and creates jobs." He added, "We will do our best to achieve balanced regional development, activate the local economy, and improve residents' quality of life."
