The PGA Tour is heading toward the finale of the 2022/2023 season. Only two regular tournaments remain: the 3M Open (total prize money $7.8 million) and the Wyndham Championship (total prize money $7.6 million). After that, the season concludes with three playoff (PO) events.
Lee Kyung-hoon, ranked 70th in the FedEx Cup standings, aims to enter the top ranks at the 3M Open.
View original imageStarting in 2024, the PGA Tour season will begin every January instead of the previous fall schedule. The 'Fall Series,' which starts in September, will be for players who did not qualify for the playoffs or lost their tour cards, competing for next year's entry rights. The number of players advancing to the playoffs has also been reduced this year. Until last season, the top 125 players in the FedEx Cup rankings qualified for the playoffs, but this year only exactly 70 players will participate.
Lee Kyoung-hoon is currently ranked 70th in the FedEx Cup standings. He needs to perform well in the remaining two tournaments. Lee will compete in the 3M Open, held over four days starting on the 27th (local time) at TPC Twin Cities (par 71, 7,431 yards) in Blaine, Minnesota, USA. He missed the cut in five of his last six tournaments, including the recent major, The Open. A turnaround in momentum is desperately needed. He has fond memories of finishing tied for 6th at the 3M Open in 2021. He did not participate in this tournament last year.

Since this U.S. tournament takes place right after The Open in England, many top-ranked players are not participating. Defending champion Tony Finau (USA) is the highest-ranked player in the field at 16th in the world rankings. Korea places high hopes on Im Sung-jae, ranked 35th in the FedEx Cup standings. Last year, he performed well, finishing tied for 2nd, three strokes behind Finau. Joining them are Kim Sung-hyun (82nd) and No Seung-yeol (155th). Kim Joo-hyung (14th), Kim Si-woo (18th), and An Byeong-hun (49th, all FedEx Cup rankings) have chosen to rest.
