Yeosu Coast Guard Rescues 2 People Who Fell into the Sea After Fishing Boat Collision
Fishing Boat and Vessel Collide Off Goheung Coast
2 Rescued After Falling Into Sea, 1 Unconscious
Jeonnam Yeosu Coast Guard Station (Chief Go Min-gwan) announced, "A fishing boat capsized after a collision with a small fishing vessel off Geogeumdo, Goheung, resulting in two crew members falling into the water and being rescued, but one person remains unconscious."
According to Yeosu Coast Guard, at 7:01 a.m. on the 26th, a collision was reported by the captain of fishing boat A (9.77 tons, 20 crew members) and coastal gillnet boat B (1.56 tons, 2 crew members) approximately 240 meters southwest off Geogeumdo, Geumsan-myeon, Goheung-gun.
After receiving the report, Yeosu Coast Guard dispatched patrol vessels and rescue teams. Upon confirming the scene, boat B had capsized immediately after the collision, causing two crew members to fall into the sea, but they were rescued by nearby vessels responding to the Coast Guard's request for cooperation.
However, Captain C (71, male) appeared to be in good health, while crew member D (69, female) was unconscious and not breathing. She was taken aboard the rescue team, where CPR and emergency treatment were administered, and she was quickly transported to a nearby port to be handed over to the waiting 119 ambulance team.
The accident is believed to have occurred because the fishing boat failed to notice the small fishing vessel operating at sea while entering the port, resulting in the collision.
A Yeosu Coast Guard official stated, "We plan to accurately investigate the cause of the accident by interviewing vessel personnel and witnesses."
