30s Biological Mother Who Starved Newborn and Abandoned Corpse 'Arrested'
Arrest Warrant Issued Due to Flight Risk and Other Concerns
A woman in her 30s, who starved her newborn baby to death and abandoned the body in Chungbuk, has been arrested.
On the 24th, the Cheongju District Court conducted a pre-arrest detention hearing for the suspect, Ms. A (in her 30s), who is charged with murder and corpse abandonment, and issued an arrest warrant due to concerns over flight risk and other reasons.

View original imageMs. A is accused of giving birth to a son at a hospital in Chungju in May 2016, then bringing him home and starving him to death. After the baby died, she reportedly placed the body in a garbage bag and abandoned it in a pile of trash near her residence.
Initially, Ms. A told the police that she had given the baby up for adoption to an unknown person, but after police interrogation, she confessed to the crime on the 21st.
At the time of the incident, Ms. A was a single mother in her 20s and reportedly told the police that she committed the crime because she was unable to raise the child.
The police plan to conduct further investigations, including examining whether there was neglect or abandonment by people around Ms. A.
The Chungbuk Police Agency received 42 investigation requests from local governments concerning so-called unregistered births?cases where birth records exist but birth registration has not been completed.

Among these, 19 cases have been closed after confirming the whereabouts, and excluding five cases currently under investigation by the Chungbuk Police Agency?including this infant corpse abandonment case, illegal online adoptions, and baby box abandonments?the remaining 18 cases are undergoing preliminary investigations.
