Chungnam Province "Full Support for Residents' Damage from Heavy Rain... Half Immediately"
Chungnam Province recently decided to provide full compensation to residents affected by the heavy rain. This special support is separate from the central government's aid, with half of the amount to be paid immediately.
Governor Kim Tae-heum of Chungnam held a press conference at the Chungnam Provincial Office to announce the "Special Support Measures for Stabilizing the Lives of Residents Affected by Heavy Rain."
Governor Kim stated, "Chungnam Province has decided to take proactive special support measures to ensure the rapid resumption of farming, housing stability, and return to daily life. The basic principle is to provide full compensation to residents affected by the heavy rain, with 50% of the damage amount paid immediately through NongHyup, and the remainder to be paid after final settlement."
Under the special support, homeowners will receive the full amount of actual damage, supplemented by additional funds beyond government support.
Chungnam Province also emphasized that residents can receive support for all electronic appliances and household goods, such as TVs, refrigerators, and washing machines, that have become unusable due to flooding.
The province will cover 80-90% of the actual damage to farming facilities and support agricultural machinery such as dryers and soil improvement.
Damage to facility crops like melons and watermelons, which are about to be harvested, will also be supported. However, for crop damage, those insured under disaster insurance will receive support for the full amount minus the insurance payout, while uninsured farmers will receive differentiated support.
Support plans for livestock damage will be reviewed based on the situation.
Along with special support, Chungnam Province plans to pursue institutional improvements for damage prevention and permanent restoration following the heavy rain.
To this end, Governor Kim said, "We will request the government to establish a body for prior consultation during emergency dam releases, maintain tributaries of the Geum River, and install and maintain additional drainage gates and sluices on the main stream, tributaries, and estuary of the Geum River."
Meanwhile, the recent heavy rain caused an estimated damage of 187.3 billion KRW in Chungnam, including 1,113 cases of public facility damage, 1,014 cases of private facility damage, 2,954.1 hectares of flooded crops, and 54.2 hectares of farmland loss.
