Police Officer Demoted After Causing Accident While Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol
A police officer who caused an accident while attempting to evade a drunk driving checkpoint after driving home under the influence was demoted.
On the 21st, the Gwangju Western Police Station announced that it had demoted Officer A for violating the duty to maintain dignity, following a disciplinary committee meeting held the previous day.
Officer A is accused of crashing into a traffic volume monitoring controller installed near Ssangchon-dong, Seo-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, at around 10:40 p.m. on the 6th.
According to the police investigation, Officer A drove after drinking with acquaintances on a day off, and upon seeing a drunk driving checkpoint, attempted to flee, causing the accident.
At the time of arrest, Officer A's blood alcohol concentration was reported to be 0.096%, a level warranting license cancellation.
