Active Police Officer Intentionally Causes Accident to Avoid DUI Check, Demoted
An active-duty police officer who caused an accident while trying to evade a drunk driving checkpoint has been demoted.
On the 21st, the Gwangju Seobu Police Station announced that it referred Officer A, who violated the duty to maintain dignity, to a disciplinary committee the previous day and decided on a demotion. Disciplinary actions for police officers are divided into severe penalties such as dismissal, removal, demotion, and suspension, and minor penalties such as salary reduction and reprimand.
Officer A is accused of crashing into a traffic volume control device near Exit 1 of Ssangchon Station in Seo-gu, Gwangju, at around 10:40 p.m. on the 6th. At the time of arrest, Officer A’s blood alcohol concentration was found to be at a level warranting license cancellation, indicating severe intoxication.
