Gangnam-gu Holds Appreciation Event for Overcoming the COVID-19 Crisis
Appreciation Plaques Awarded to 39 Meritorious Institutions and Organizations Contributing to COVID-19 Prevention and Spread Control
Gangnam-gu (District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong) held an 'Appreciation Event for Overcoming the COVID-19 Crisis' at the district office on the 18th.
At this event, the district presented appreciation plaques to 39 institutions and organizations within the district, including police stations, welfare centers, hospitals, and professional groups, who worked together during the COVID-19 response activities and moments of crisis.
Additionally, a video documenting the 3 years and 6 months of response efforts was produced to express gratitude to those who worked silently behind the scenes.
Furthermore, the event outlined future directions and visions for infectious disease response and strengthened public-private cooperation against infectious diseases.
Since the first confirmed COVID-19 case on February 26, 2020, Gangnam-gu recorded a cumulative total of 330,219 confirmed cases (as of June 30, 2023), ranking third highest in Seoul.
In response, the district developed and implemented advanced systems such as the nation’s first smart health questionnaire, a one-stop automated system for screening clinics, rapid epidemiological investigation teams, dedicated teams for vulnerable groups including elderly living alone, and the establishment of school disinfection teams. Through active cooperation among various institutions, organizations, and residents, the COVID-19 mortality rate in Gangnam-gu was kept at 21st place within Seoul.

District Mayor Jo Seong-myeong expressed his gratitude, saying, “We were able to overcome the crisis by uniting the public and private sectors in responding to COVID-19.” He also stated, “We will take this opportunity to strengthen an advanced infectious disease response system and do our best to protect the health and safety of our residents.”
