View original imageGangbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Soon-hee) announced that the ‘Seoul-style Kids Cafe Gangbuk-gu No.1 Branch PLAY ON’ will open in Beon 3-dong on the 24th.
The ‘Seoul-style Kids Cafe’ is an indoor play space designed so that children can play freely regardless of differences in household economic status or environmental changes such as fine dust. As part of its low birthrate countermeasures and to guarantee children’s right to play, the district established the ‘Seoul-style Kids Cafe Gangbuk-gu No.1 Branch PLAY ON’ (hereafter Kids Cafe).
The Kids Cafe, opening on the 24th, is located on the 1st floor of the Beondong Jugong Complex Welfare Housing (Building 309), which was completed in December last year. The capacity is 16 people, and the district secured more than 10㎡ per person to allow children to play freely.
The Kids Cafe covers an area of 205㎡ (approximately 62 pyeong), of which 156㎡ is dedicated to play spaces for children. It is divided into three zones: ‘Alkongine’ for warm-up exercises, dance, and board games; ‘Dalkongine’ for dynamic play with slides, climbing walls, net tunnels, and running tracks; and ‘Mallangine’ for brain activities such as Lego blocks and creative activities.
The district plans to operate the Kids Cafe officially from September after a pilot operation period from the 24th until August 31.
The target users are children aged 6 to 8 and their guardians residing in Seoul. However, during the pilot operation period, usage is limited to residents of Gangbuk-gu or related personnel from institutions and organizations. The usage fee is 2,000 KRW per session, but it will be free during the pilot operation period.
The operating hours are from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM, Monday through Saturday. There are three sessions: 10:00 AM (1st session), 1:00 PM (2nd session), and 3:30 PM (3rd session), each lasting two hours. Among these, the 1st and 2nd sessions on weekdays are mainly for group children from daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary schools, where demand is high.
Additionally, in August, an event called ‘Remember the First Meeting’ will be held, where Kids Cafe users in July who submit reviews on Instagram, blogs, etc., will receive invitation tickets for magic shows, cheerful sports days, and more as gifts.
Children and guardians wishing to use the Kids Cafe can make reservations through the Gangbuk-gu website’s integrated reservation section until July, and from August, through the Seoul Our Neighborhood Care Portal website.
For more details about the Kids Cafe, inquiries can be made to the Kids Cafe Gangbuk-gu No.1 Branch or the Gangbuk-gu Youth Division.
