Go Ji-won is a player famous as a ‘sister golfer’ on the Korea Ladies Professional Golf Association (KLPGA) Tour. Her older sister, Go Ji-woo, won her first career victory two weeks ago at the McCol·Mona Yongpyong Open.
Rookie Go Ji-won bypassed last year’s KLPGA Jump (3rd tier) Tour and Dream (2nd tier) Tour to enter the regular tour this year. Now it’s the younger sister’s turn. On the 13th, at the Evercollagen·The Siena Queens Crown (total prize money 800 million KRW) first round held at The Siena Country Club in Jeju City, Jeju Island (par 72, 6,470 yards), Go Ji-won shot a ‘life-best’ 8-under-par to dominate the top of the leaderboard. She made a perfect play with 8 birdies and no bogeys.

Go Ji-won has participated in 14 tournaments this year but has yet to achieve a ‘top 10’ finish. Her best result was 11th place at the E1 Charity Open in May. After struggling with three consecutive missed cuts in recent tournaments, she succeeded in bouncing back in her hometown Jeju. Go Ji-won exclaimed, "My shots have been fine recently, but my putting wasn’t keeping up, so I practiced putting a lot under the scorching sun yesterday, and it paid off." She added, "The greens are fast, so I focused on distance control, and it worked well."
She said, "Watching my sister’s victory interview motivated me a lot. I’ve always wanted my first win, but after my sister’s victory, I felt even more eager to achieve it sooner, which fueled my passion." She also shared, "After my sister’s win, we just exchanged ‘congratulations’ and ‘thank you’."

Go Ji-won was further motivated by the success of the ‘Rookie Trio.’ Bang Shin-sil (E1 Charity Open) and Hwang Yu-min (Daeyu Winia·MBN Women’s Open) have already become champions. Kim Min-byeol is second in rookie points with two runner-up finishes. Go Ji-won said, "All three have been good players since they were young and are close to me. I hope to join them and become the ‘Rookie Big 4.’ I will work hard in the second half of the season to join them," she said with a bright smile.
